Honda of Burlington Careers

Nelson Family Auto History

The Nelson family name in the automotive business goes back about one hundred years. Pam's Great-Great and Great Grandfathers, Hans and Nelse Nelson, immigrated to the United States from Sweden in the late 19th Century and owned a livery stable with horses for hire in Ballard. Their transportation business continued with Nelse's son, Stanley Nelson Sr. In 1915, he owned and operated a one-pump gas station, tire store and the only jitney shuttle service connecting Ballard and Seattle at the time. He became a Chevrolet dealer in 1922 when GM came by and asked if he wanted a franchise. He did.

Pam's father, Stan Nelson Jr., set out to buy his own Chevrolet dealership in Sedro Woolley in 1938. He had no credit and no assets to his name. His father told him to borrow twice as much as he needed and pay back half within a month; he asked for $4,000. By doing that he would establish his credit. What is so impressive is that Stan did this when he was just 23 years old and became the youngest Chevrolet dealer in the entire country at that time!

Our auto dealership that today is known as Honda of Burlington dates back to 1979. Now owned by the Nelson Family Automotive Group, our new and used Washington car dealership is committed to providing for the sales, finance and service needs of all Skagit Valley drivers. As a family-owned and operated business, we value customer satisfaction and will work hard to earn your repeat business time and time again.

When we're not assisting our customers with an automotive need, we're doing all that we can to give back to the communities we serve. Honda of Burlington sponsors both national and local organizations and foundations, including the Helping Hands Food Bank, Hospice of the Northwest, Boys and Girls Club, and the Mount Vernon Farmers Market. By shopping here for your next new Civic sedan, you help support causes such as these as well.
